Is
it a new Town Garage that we need? Drive around the Town
Garage and Dump/Recycle Center and see which land site
is being taken care of, the Recycle Center or the Town
Garage?
Remind
yourself that there are only two people at the Dump Site
who do not work for the town, and therefore should not
necessarily have the type of attitude that would make
them keep the area clean and neat. Their neatness is more
likely a result of their caring and feeling that neatness
is part of their job.
The
Town Garage: look at the equipment left all around, look
at the piles of junk left outside, look at the piles of
material dumped 10 feet from the stream, look at the salt
that runs into the stream, look at the care taken to the
buildings, look at the total mess including the landscaping
that is typical of the leadership of the Highway Department
and the Town last year.
As
part of the Highway Department's program, the First Selectman
backed the cost of buying a tractor-trailer to haul winter
sand from Central Connecticut and then we would have had
to pay another town employee to drive it. I thought that
we had the biggest sand and gravel operation in Western
Connecticut in our own town. We all know that this administration
can't negotiate successfully on anything, but can't they
at least do some math?!!
By
the way, are we the only town that uses sand that doesn't
meet state specifications for winter snow work?
Did we get a cheaper price for the wrong stuff?
Did the taxpayers really save money or did we place the
local drivers at risk last winter?
